Dentures
Smile With Confidence
Both NHS and private dentures are offered at our practice.
There’s nothing more uncomfortable than an ill-fitting set of dentures that prevent you from getting on with your life the way you want to. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be that way. With the assistance of our top-class laboratory partners, we can provide cosmetically appealing perfectly-fitted dentures that will stand the test of time.
We offer two types of dentures at our Tweedsmuir practice, acrylic, and chrome.
Cosmetic Acrylic Dentures
Our cosmetic acrylic dentures consist of acrylic teeth fused to an acrylic plate and are used to replace missing teeth. They can be used for a single tooth, multiple teeth, or a full set of teeth.
Cobalt Chrome Dentures
Cobalt chrome dentures are more cosmetic. They are a very discrete and comfortable alternative to traditional acrylic dentures and provide an effective solution for patients who require multiple teeth to be replaced.

The treatment for dentures will be very dependent on an individual. However, it should typically take around four appointments.
First visit – at your first visit, your dentist will ensure that your gums and soft tissue are ready for the denture. This will involve an exam and X- Rays to identify whether there are any unforeseen challenges and, if so, will highlight whether there are any other procedures required before fitting a denture. You will then begin the process of the molds of your gums, and then the desired elements will be discussed, such as the size, shape, and shade of your new teeth.
Second visit – at your second visit, you will decide the length of the new teeth for the denture to ensure they are the correct fit and alignment between the upper and lower jaw.
Third visit – at your third visit, you will see what the denture looks like and adjust them for size to be sent to the laboratory to make final adjustments.
Fourth visit – this should be your final appointment, and you should be leaving with your brand new, perfectly fitting denture.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why would I need Dentures?
Implants are the closest thing to getting your own teeth back but dentures can still be useful in several situations. For example, when you require multiple teeth to be extracted and you want a short-term immediate replacement before any long-term fix such as implants or bridges.
Are there alternatives to Dentures?
Yes, Dental Implants can also provide an effective solution for missing teeth. This treatment is not generally available on the NHS but it is worth having a chat with our dentist, our dental team will discuss whether your case is suitable for Dental Implant treatment.
Will my dentures ever need to be replaced?
We recommend that you replace your dentures every five to ten years and come back to see your dentist every six months so we can check the fit of your Denture.
