Composite Bonding

A Fast Solution to Refresh Your Smile

Composite Bonding is generally used for filling any gaps in your teeth that can develop over time as your teeth move. The method of Composite Bonding involves composite resin, which is shaped and molded to your tooth to restore its original appearance with the colour of the resin matched to your tooth to give a natural appearance.

Dr. Lorna McIntosh and Dr. Umara Tariq both offer Composite Bonding treatment at our Tweedsmuir dental practice. For more information or to arrange a FREE cosmetic consultation for Composite Bonding, contact our dental team on 0141 882 6825.

Benefits of Composite Bonding

  • Usually carried out in one appointment.
  • Fast working and effective solution to fix minor cosmetic issues.
  • Non-invasive procedure.
  • Doesn’t damage your natural smile.
  • With excellent oral hygiene and regular cleaning, composite bonds should last for years.
  • Composite Bonding is fully reversible, unlike veneers, giving you the freedom to change your mind and be confident in your smile.

Composite Bonding with Teeth Whitening

Composite Bonding can also act as a solution for stained teeth and may be used alongside Teeth Whitening treatments to help you achieve a brighter smile.

If you decide to go ahead with Composite Bonding, you’ll normally be advised to carry out Teeth Whitening first. This is because the composite resin will be matched to your tooth following this whitening treatment, as the bond cannot be whitened further after being placed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Composite Bonding?

Composite Bonding is the process of applying composite material to the teeth in order to repair or enhance them in both colour and shape. The composite is a tooth-coloured material that, when applied, allows the tooth to maintain its natural colour, or if the tooth is discoloured, return it to its natural colour. The most common issues which can be fixed with Composite Bonding are chipped or crooked teeth where the composite material can be used to fill in the gaps between the teeth and repair their normal shape.

What are the benefits of Composite Bonding?

Key benefits of Composite Bonding include a quick and easy process that can be done in a few appointments, discreet, and will not damage your existing teeth. Composite Bonding includes composite veneers which cover the whole tooth and composite edge bonding that tidies up the edges of your teeth to shape the tooth to a desirable shape. The process is pain-free and can easily repair small damages to your teeth.

Can Composite Bonding fix crooked teeth?

Yes, to a certain extent. If your teeth are crooked or misaligned, the tooth-coloured composite material can sometimes be used to re-shape teeth and make them appear straighter. While this does make the teeth appear straight, if you want them to be naturally straight, you will need a different treatment such as tooth straightening, which can be achieved with our Invisalign or Quick Straight Teeth treatment and Composite Bonding can be used after for the final touch-ups (included in our Cosmetic Braces packages).

How long do Composite Bonds last?

On average, Composite Bonding lasts around 5 years. However, there are a wide variety of external factors that will affect the bonding’s lifespan. These include placement of the Composite Bonding, the health of your natural teeth, and how well you take care of your teeth.
